Apple’s AI Missteps Threaten Its Future in Emerging Industries and Market Growth

Posted on 6 May 2025

Apple’s recent challenges in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) have raised significant concerns about its competitive position in emerging tech industries. The company hastily entered the AI space to avoid being outpaced by rivals, but risks lagging in other key areas if it cannot deliver a robust AI model soon.

In a bid to improve its AI offerings, Apple is reportedly seeking collaboration with Google on its flagship AI model, yet this step may be too little, too late. AI is becoming increasingly essential as the tech landscape evolves.

Numerous companies, including Meta, Google, Samsung, and Apple, are exploring the development of AI-powered augmented reality (AR) glasses. Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed a strong interest in releasing a pioneering product in this area.

The functionality of these glasses depends heavily on AI, as seen in the success of Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, which gained popularity through AI enhancements. Key features enabled by AI include real-time translation, navigation, and social media integration.

Beyond smart glasses, the emerging field of home robotics presents another opportunity. Apple is reportedly working on innovative projects, including a robot capable of integrating with its iPad ecosystem.

However, the success of these ventures hinges on the company’s ability to advance its AI capabilities. Competitors like Samsung are already making strides with their own robotics initiatives, which could capture market share if Apple falls behind.

Internally, Apple executives recognize the need for improved AI performance, prompting employee reassignments to accelerate development. Currently, plans for an upgraded Siri digital assistant have been pushed to 2026, potentially risking Apple’s relevance in fast-evolving industries.

If these projects continue to face delays, the company may struggle to maintain its status as a leading tech giant, making the next few years crucial for its future trajectory.
