Clear case images shared by tipster Sonny Dickson showcase a larger cutout for the camera island when compared to the previous iPhone 16 Pro cases. The proportions of this new design have sparked curiosity over the rationale behind such an alteration.
Initially, observations indicated that the camera alignment remains unchanged, leading many to speculate whether Apple was imitating rival brands like Google. However, a social media user known as Mia Kacurage has provided insights suggesting that the changes are rooted in a technical upgrade. Reports indicate that the iPhone 17 Pro is set to replace its 12MP telephoto camera with a new 48MP option.
This upgrade promises to maintain the same 10x optical zoom capacity as its predecessor while increasing the megapixel count. It is important to note that increasing megapixels without enlarging the sensor would result in smaller pixels, consequently affecting light-gathering abilities. To counterbalance this, Apple is expected to enlarge the sensor size, which necessitates a rotational adjustment of the telephoto lens.
This modification would unfortunately eliminate the standard placement for the LiDAR module, which will henceforth be relocated to the perimeter of the camera bar, sharing space with the LED flash and microphone.
