OnePlus Begins Development on Next Foldable Device, but Expectations Should Be Managed

Posted on 17 March 2025

OnePlus has made a significant decision regarding foldable smartphones, stating that it would largely step back from this market in 2025. However, this does not mean that the Chinese tech company is completely leaving the foldable segment. Recent rumors indicate that OnePlus is currently developing its next foldable device, anticipated to launch as early as 2026. Reliable leaker Max Jambor revealed details about this forthcoming smartphone, mentioning the name OnePlus Pagani, accompanied by a hands emoji, signaling it as a foldable model.

Another well-known leaker, Abhishek Yadav, confirmed that Pagani is indeed the internal code for this upcoming phone. Unfortunately, specifications and design details remain sparse, likely because the development phase is still in its early stages, where changes can easily occur. Earlier this year, Vale Gu, the Product Manager for the OnePlus Open, noted that while the company is momentarily pausing its foldable strategy for this generation, it does not indicate a full retreat from the segment but rather a “recalibration.” The absence of a OnePlus foldable, even if it was a variant of the Oppo Find N5, leaves a noticeable gap in the company’s product lineup.

The limited availability of the Oppo Find N5 in select countries further complicates matters for OnePlus, which owns both brands. If OnePlus chose to delay the launch of a foldable smartphone to avoid competition with Oppo’s offering, it might not be the most strategic choice. However, if the aim is to refine the product further, anticipation builds for what OnePlus may present in the near future.
