T-Mobile Accused of Selling Customer Data; Company Strongly Denies the Allegations

Cybercriminals claim to have compromised T-Mobile customer data, although the company confidently asserts that these claims are unfounded. Reports suggest that hackers may have stolen information from 64 million customers, allegedly acquiring sensitive details such as full names, dates of birth, Tax IDs, addresses, email addresses, IP addresses, and phone numbers.

In response, T-Mobile has stated that it carefully examined the sample of data released by the hackers and confirmed that it does not pertain to their customers. The company emphasized that any assertions of a data breach are inaccurate, reinforcing their position with a clear statement: “We have reviewed the sample data provided and can confirm the data does not relate to T-Mobile or our customers”—T-Mobile, June 2025.

If T-Mobile’s assessment holds true, customers may feel a sense of relief. However, a history of unnoticed data breaches raises concerns, particularly considering that some sensitive information might have been stolen through a third-party partner.

The compromised records are relatively recent, with indications that they were stolen earlier this month. Cybernews’ analysis further revealed that while some emails in the data sample were previously involved in other breaches, the presence of unique data points—like phone numbers—suggests that this information may not have been sourced from past leaks.

Additionally, certain entries were not found on the popular breach-checking site, Have I Been Pwned, implying that the hackers could have acquired this information through other means. The data sample appeared on a forum popular among sellers offering stolen information, posted by an individual with a history of sharing verifiable data.

While T-Mobile has dismissed connections to the data, the legitimacy and freshness of the information raise significant concerns. As T-Mobile recently started distributing settlement checks from a prior breach in 2021, any potential new breach could severely damage the company’s reputation and its commitment to enhancing cybersecurity measures.
