OnePlus is gearing up to unveil its latest Nord series phones, with the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 slated for a launch on July 8. Recently, a listing on Geekbench has stirred up discussions about the specifications of these devices, especially the Nord 5. The new information reveals that the Nord 5 may not feature the anticipated MediaTek chip. Instead, it is reported to come equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, which includes an Adreno 735 GPU.
This news has left some enthusiasts disappointed, as the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e has shown promising performance in terms of raw power and efficiency. Nonetheless, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 remains a strong contender, likely ensuring a solid user experience. In terms of additional specifications, the Nord 5 is rumored to boast a 1.5K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and a camera setup comprising a 50 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 16 MP front-facing camera. Notably, the device is expected to house a substantial 7,000mAh battery with support for fast 100W charging.
Conversely, the Nord CE 5 might stick with a MediaTek processor, specifically the Dimensity 8350, featuring 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It is also anticipated to have a similar 120Hz OLED display and camera system while potentially offering a slightly larger 7,100mAh battery with 80W fast charging. As both devices aim to compete in the mid-range market, the Nord 5 seems to promise improved performance and battery life over its rivals, such as the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion and Samsung Galaxy A56. However, availability may pose a challenge, with the Nord CE 5 likely to be limited to the Indian market, while the Nord 5 may see broader distribution across the UK and Europe, but not in the US.
