AT&T has recently launched a new plan specifically designed for seniors, named the AT&T 55+. This initiative comes in response to rival carriers T-Mobile and Verizon, which have already optimized their offerings for older customers. By creating a targeted plan, AT&T aims to meet the unique needs of individuals aged 55 and over.
The AT&T 55+ plan is priced competitively at $40 per month for a single line, with a discounted rate of $35 per month for two lines when certain conditions are met, including eligibility for Autopay and paperless billing. Additionally, seniors who opt for the two-line option can benefit from a bundled offer that includes AT&T Internet 300 or Internet Air for a combined monthly fee of $99 (plus taxes and fees). The plan offers unlimited talk, text, and data across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, along with 10GB of hotspot data and the security of AT&T ActiveArmor.
However, it’s important to note that while data is unlimited, AT&T may throttle speeds during peak network usage, reducing them to 2G levels. For those who exceed the 10GB of hotspot data, speeds will further drop to a maximum of 128kbps, which can significantly hinder internet usage. This isn’t AT&T’s sole offering for seniors, as T-Mobile’s Essential Choice 55 plan costs $60 per month and Verizon’s 55+ plans start at $62 for one line and $84 for two lines.
Consequently, AT&T’s new 55+ plan emerges as the most affordable option in the U.S. for older adults, though T-Mobile and Verizon may provide higher data allowances.
