A new contender has entered the world of spam caller identification with the launch of LiveCaller, a free alternative to the widely used Truecaller app. This app, developed with the intent of enhancing user security, targets the increasing threat of unwanted phone calls, which can range from pesky telemarketers to sophisticated scams that use artificial intelligence to mimic real voices.
According to a recent press release, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission highlighted a significant issue: Americans lost a staggering $12.5 billion to fraud in 2024, with $1.9 billion of that attributed to phone scams. LiveCaller aims to mitigate such risks by providing users with real-time protections against fraudulent calls.
When a call comes through, LiveCaller encrypts the phone number for security and checks it against a global database containing over 4 billion entries. If a match is found, the caller’s name or a clear notification—such as “Spam: Telemarketing”—is displayed directly on the iPhone’s call screen.
One notable advantage of LiveCaller is its seamless integration with iOS 18, which eliminates the need for users to keep the app open or go through complicated manual setups often found in other caller ID solutions. This streamlined design allows for the automatic identification of unwanted calls and supports 28 languages.
LiveCaller’s core feature of real-time caller identification is available completely free of charge, unlike some competing apps that require payments for similar services. Ken Vinner, the CEO and Co-Founder, has emphasized the commitment to user privacy, noting that the app does not collect personal call data and encrypts all lookups.
While there may be optional premium features introduced later, the essential functionalities will remain free for all iOS 18 users. LiveCaller’s launch offers iPhone users an effective way to manage unwanted calls, making it a potentially invaluable tool for enhancing their call security and overall experience.
