Apple Teases Upcoming Release of Stable iOS 18.5: Major Announcement Imminent

Posted on 6 May 2025

Apple is set to release iOS 18.5 for compatible iPhones shortly. The anticipation is heightened by the release of the Release Candidate (RC) version of the update, which typically signifies that the stable version will be available within a week. This RC version is likely the final iteration of iOS 18.5 unless any significant bugs are discovered during the final testing phase. For those participating in the iOS 18.5 beta program, the RC allows users to transition back to the stable version without the need to erase their devices.

Interested users can download the RC by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update. This update is compatible with iPhone XS models and later. The iOS 18.5 update introduces several exciting features, including a new Pride Harmony wallpaper, various bug fixes, and important security updates. Notably, parents will now receive notifications whenever the Screen Time passcode is accessed on their children’s devices.

Additionally, a glitch that previously resulted in a black screen on the Apple Vision Pro app has been resolved. Users can also customize the native iOS Mail app, reverting to the previous user interface that excludes Contact photos. This can be accomplished by selecting options within the Mail app’s settings. For those eager to stay ahead of the curve and be among the first to experience the latest iOS updates, June 9th is a key date.

This will mark the commencement of the WWDC developer conference, where Apple is expected to unveil iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 following the keynote session. Furthermore, iPadOS 18.5 RC is also available now, with the stable version likely to be rolled out next week for supported iPads.
