Google Messages users are in for a treat with new features rolling out. One of the most anticipated is the “Unsubscribe” feature.
As the name suggests, it allows users to easily opt out of unwanted messages from businesses. This is particularly useful for filtering out promotional content that clutters our devices.
To use the Unsubscribe feature, simply open the Google Messages app and navigate to the conversation with the business you wish to stop hearing from. From there, either access the conversation menu or look for the Unsubscribe option at the bottom of the chat.
Once you unsubscribe, Google will send a “STOP” message to the sender, but you may still receive essential communications like one-time passwords or confirmation texts. If the business can’t comply with your request, they may prompt you to adjust your notification settings.
Currently, the feature is available for RCS for Business messages in several countries, including the US, UK, and Germany, as well as for SMS or MMS messages in the US. If you ever wish to resubscribe, just revisit the conversation and select ‘Subscribe’ again.
In addition to the Unsubscribe function, Android Authority has identified three new features in development. One is a landscape mode update that equalizes the widths of the chat screen and list.
While this could enhance aesthetics, some users might find the compose box restrictive afterward. Another potential improvement includes the ability to preview PDF files, allowing users to see the first page of unprotected PDFs before downloading them.
Additionally, beta users will soon see text next to buttons for calls, video, contact info, and search, enhancing usability. These enhancements reflect Google’s commitment to continuously improving Google Messages, although they are open to reverting changes that may not resonate with users.
