Motorola has recently unveiled multiple new smartphones, and in addition to these, the company has forged a significant partnership with Perplexity to introduce an AI application to its users. This collaboration aims to enhance the user experience of its AI companion, moto ai, by integrating technology from leading companies in the AI sector, including Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Perplexity. A noteworthy feature of this partnership is the direct integration of Perplexity’s AI-enhanced search capabilities within moto ai for the first time on a smartphone.
Motorola users can utilize the “Explore with Perplexity” option, which enables them to delve into topics more comprehensively by leveraging the robust search functionalities provided by Perplexity. Additionally, users will be offered a three-month trial of Perplexity Pro, a premium version of the search app that includes advanced features not found in the free version. The collaboration marks Perplexity’s largest integration into smartphones to date, with the Perplexity Assistant optimized for use on the external display of Motorola Razr phones.
Customers who buy new Motorola devices after March 3, 2025, will gain access to the three-month trial of Perplexity Pro. However, this feature will not be accessible in China or other sanctioned jurisdictions that are subject to U.S. trade restrictions, and it is only available for new Perplexity Pro subscribers. The first Motorola smartphones featuring this integration will be the Razr (2025), Razr+ (2025), and Razr Ultra, while other models released post-March 3 will receive the AI functionality through future updates.
It is important to note that although Perplexity’s app can be set as the default assistant, Google’s Gemini will remain the primary assistant on all Motorola smartphones supporting AI features.
