Xiaomi 15S Pro: Reviving Old Technology with Lightning-Fast 90W Charging Speeds

Posted on 8 April 2025

The Xiaomi 15S Pro is generating excitement ahead of its anticipated release, particularly due to its potential features, including rapid 90W charging. Recent discussions suggest that this phone might also incorporate Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology, a feature that Xiaomi last utilized in the Mix 4, released five years ago.

This revival of UWB technology could set the stage for future flagship devices from Xiaomi to leverage its capabilities. UWB is a wireless communication protocol that operates on a broad frequency spectrum, providing precision beyond what traditional technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi can offer.

While Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connect across narrow bands, UWB allows for low-energy transmissions that significantly enhance spatial awareness and data transfer. One of UWB’s most compelling advantages is its ability to determine location with centimeter-level accuracy.

This is particularly beneficial for applications like digital car keys, where unlocking a vehicle occurs only when the user is in proximity. Moreover, UWB enhances file sharing experiences, akin to Apple’s AirDrop, by enabling devices to determine one another’s direction and distance.

This results in a more intuitive and secure transfer process between devices. In smart home settings, UWB can streamline interactions; for example, merely approaching a smart speaker or television with a UWB-enabled smartphone can facilitate automatic pairing or content transfer.

As UWB technology becomes more widely adopted, it’s set to unlock innovative use cases, particularly in the realm of augmented reality and indoor navigation, highlighting its potential for future advancements and integration in various applications.
