Mid-Cycle Feature Update Enhances Gemini on Select Google Pixel Phones

Posted on 8 April 2025

Google and Samsung have announced an exciting update known as Gemini Live, enhancing the capabilities of their latest flagship phones, the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25. Initially launched in March exclusively for Gemini Advanced users, this feature is now accessible to all users of these devices. The update significantly enhances how artificial intelligence interacts with mobile hardware, allowing for more fluid and natural conversations in over 45 languages. The prominent feature of Gemini Live is the ability for users to share their phone’s camera or screen directly with the Gemini assistant.

A new button labeled “Share screen with Live” enables users to ask questions about what’s on their display and receive real-time responses. For camera interactions, a camcorder icon provides access to a live video mode, allowing users to show Gemini something directly for advice or feedback. This functionality has multiple practical applications. For instance, users can point their camera at a disorganized closet and receive organizational tips from Gemini.

It’s also handy for troubleshooting devices or products, personal shopping decisions, and even brainstorming ideas for art or DIY projects. This new integration effectively brings the assistant into everyday real-world scenarios rather than limiting it to a voice on a screen. Samsung is promoting this functionality as part of its Galaxy AI suite, allowing Galaxy S25 users to easily access Gemini Live for style suggestions or organizing help. Interestingly, Google has branded this rollout as the Pixel Feature Drop for April 2025, indicating it will be the only new feature for Pixel users this month.

Typically, Pixel Feature Drops introduce a variety of enhancements, making this single-feature update quite unique. The next complete feature drop is anticipated in June 2025, barring any surprise mid-cycle updates from Google.
