Samsung’s New Patent Reveals Innovative Wireless Charging Method for Upcoming Galaxy Ring

Posted on 4 April 2025

A recent Samsung patent suggests that the next Galaxy Ring may incorporate innovative wireless charging technology, particularly reverse wireless charging. This patent, filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in July 2024 and approved recently, has the application number WO/2025/063477. It indicates that Samsung is considering using this feature to enhance the connectivity and convenience of its product ecosystem.

The patent does not guarantee that this feature will be included in the upcoming Galaxy Ring; however, it illustrates Samsung’s vision for a more integrated and user-friendly experience. Users may find the ability to charge the smart ring directly using a compatible Samsung smartphone appealing, as it eliminates the need for additional cables or charging cases. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, for example, already supports reverse wireless charging for devices like earbuds and smartwatches.

Using this technology for a ring would represent a novel advancement. According to the patent details, charging would involve placing the Galaxy Ring on the back of a compatible phone. The phone contains a wireless charging circuit that delivers power to the ring’s battery while embedded sensors ensure the ring is properly aligned for charging.

If the placement isn’t correct, users will receive notifications to assist them. The phone will also display real-time charging status and battery levels on-screen. While this patent hints at exciting potential developments for the second-generation Galaxy Ring, such as possibly transitioning to solid-state batteries for improved performance, it underscores Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the convenience and usability of its wearable technology.

These advancements may significantly simplify users’ interactions with their devices.
