This Android device achieved the unthinkable for Mac users.

Posted on 4 April 2025

Recently, I wrapped up my review of the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro. While it stands out as a solid Android tablet, one specific software feature caught my attention.

Having relied on a MacBook Pro for my daily tasks, I’ve enjoyed its overall performance, but I’ve often struggled with compatibility between its macOS and Android devices. Achieving a seamless experience typically requires juggling a range of third-party apps, which often fall short of expectations.

To my surprise, I discovered a hidden gem in the Xiaomi tablet’s settings that fundamentally changed the game. The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro offers a feature that allows it to function as a Sidecar for your Mac, enabling you to extend your Mac’s screen as if you were using a Sidecar-capable iPad.

Aesthetically, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro resembles an iPad Pro, but its software capabilities are where it truly shines. After extensive searching, I found no other device offered such efficient native screen mirroring with macOS.

While third-party options have existed for years, their performance is inconsistent at best. Xiaomi’s implementation is user-friendly and seamless.

There are no complicated client-side options; the tablet simply behaves like an iPad. It supports resolution up to 3200 by 2136 pixels, which is suitable for most tasks, allowing you to mirror or extend your Mac’s screen effortlessly.

While extending or mirroring to a Windows PC is also easy, this feature is commonplace among many Android tablets. Xiaomi’s thoughtful integration of its device with macOS is commendable.

Although an iPad might still be the better choice for those deeply entrenched in the Apple ecosystem, for anyone navigating between both worlds, this compatibility is a noteworthy advantage. Kudos to Xiaomi for bridging the gap between Android and macOS!
