Leaker discloses how Apple plans to make iPhone Fold’s display user-friendly for iPad fans.

Posted on 29 March 2025

A recent leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo sheds light on Apple’s anticipated iPhone Fold, particularly its internal display. This foldable device is expected to enter mass production by late next year and could launch in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027.

Rumors suggest the iPhone Fold will feature a 5.49-inch cover screen, allowing users to accomplish tasks without opening the device, while the internal screen is projected to measure around 7.75 inches. According to the leak, the internal display of the iPhone Fold will boast a custom aspect ratio close to 4:3.

This choice aligns with Apple’s long-standing design philosophy, as most iPad models, including the iPad Pro, have historically utilized a 4:3 aspect ratio. By mirroring the iPad’s screen specifications, Apple aims to create a seamless transition between the iPhone and iPad experience, ensuring a consistent software ecosystem.

Digital Chat Station noted, “The purpose is to make the internal and external screens consistent and the software ecology to be in line with the iPad,” indicating that the iPhone Fold will support iPad apps rather than those designed exclusively for the iPhone. Furthermore, Apple appears to be focused on addressing durability issues that have plagued foldable devices.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the iPhone Fold will feature a liquid metal hinge, allowing for smooth opening and closing while reducing the risk of hinge failure. This innovative design aims to mitigate the common crease found in many foldable displays, which can detract from the user experience.

Apple’s strategy includes minimizing this crease by ensuring the screen remains flatter when opened. In conclusion, Apple aims to set the iPhone Fold apart from other foldable phones by enhancing its durability, reducing visible screen creases, and providing superior battery life.

Time will tell how effectively these innovations will shape the user experience.
