Last week, we invited you to participate in an engaging challenge where you had to guess which phones were used to perform a series of AI photo edits. We presented several photos, each paired with two AI-enhanced versions, and asked you to match the edits to the respective devices. The contenders included the iPhone 16 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S25, and Google Pixel 9 Pro. Now, we are excited to reveal the results of your guesses and encourage you to share how well you did in our poll and the comments section.
Starting with the task of cleaning up the foreground, most participants (80%) accurately identified that the Galaxy S25 produced the better result. It effectively handled the natural frame around the dog, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro left behind noticeable traces and even introduced a peculiar artifact in the corner. Next, we moved on to removing people from images. This proved to be a challenging task for the iPhone 16 Pro, which struggled by replacing a colleague’s image with a disturbing mush.
In contrast, the Pixel 9 Pro not only eliminated the person successfully but also transformed the photo from portrait mode to a regular mode, impressing 76% of you who guessed correctly. The editing of buildings showcased differing approaches from the Galaxy S25 and Pixel 9 Pro. The latter made subtle adjustments by only removing one element and attempting some vegetation recreation, while the Galaxy S25 opted for a more dramatic redesign, resulting in a divide in guesses. The repositioning of a subject, specifically a dog, proved to be the most challenging task.
The edits resulted in both images feeling unrealistic, with a close split in participant guesses. Finally, deleting objects on glossy surfaces revealed mixed results. Although the iPhone 16 Pro handled the reflection better, many participants failed to recognize its strengths. Overall, we encourage you to reflect on your guesses and share your thoughts about the editing challenges!
