Recent leaks regarding the upcoming iPhone 17 series indicate a significant upgrade for the front camera, marking the first notable enhancement in years. The information suggests that all four models—the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max—will feature a new 24 MP selfie camera. This is an improvement from the current 12 MP camera, which has remained unchanged since the iPhone 11 in 2019. Users can expect sharper selfies and better image quality, even when photos are cropped.
In addition to this front camera upgrade, reports have surfaced suggesting that the Pro and Pro Max models will also introduce a 48 MP telephoto camera. This upgrade could pave the way for 8K video recording, a feature that Apple had previously been unable to implement due to limitations of the existing 12 MP telephoto lens. If the new telephoto camera delivers on its promises, we may finally see this sought-after capability. Moreover, the Pro models are rumored to be powered by the A19 Pro chip and include 12 GB of RAM to support enhanced artificial intelligence features.
All variants may also adopt Wi-Fi 7 technology, currently exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro. However, it seems that only the iPhone 17 Air will come with Apple’s in-house C1 modem. Additionally, there’s speculation that the iPhone 17 Air will sport a titanium frame, while the Pro models will continue with aluminum. There are also whispers of a foldable iPhone being developed, further adding to the intrigue surrounding the new line.
While it’s still unclear whether all these features will manifest, the anticipated front camera boost appears to be a likely addition, as it has been a long time coming.
