Major Update to Android Chrome Promises Enhanced User Experience and Simplicity

Posted on 17 July 2025

A significant update to the Android version of the Chrome browser is set to enhance user experience, particularly for those who find it challenging to navigate larger screens. If you’ve ever struggled with reaching the address bar on your Android phone, you’ll be pleased to know that you can now move it to the bottom of the screen.

This feature, which was first considered by Google back in 2016, has finally become available. While iPhone users enjoyed the convenience of a bottom address bar, Android users had to wait until now.

Starting with Chrome version 138, you have the option to reposition the address bar. To do this, simply open the Chrome app, tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner, go to Settings, select Address bar, and toggle on the Bottom option.

Before proceeding, it’s important to ensure your Chrome app is updated. To check the version, navigate to Settings, then Apps, and find Chrome.

Scroll down to see the version number. If it’s 138 or higher, the new feature should be enabled.

If it’s not visible, consider force stopping the app and relaunching it, as this may help the update take effect. Additionally, while the default position for the address bar is at the top, moving it to the bottom could make browsing more comfortable for some users.

If you prefer the traditional setup, you can easily switch back by adjusting the settings. The update also shifts the three-dot menu icon to the bottom of the screen, aligning with the new address bar’s placement.

In summary, this change aims to make browsing on Android devices more user-friendly and adaptable to individual preferences.
