Samsung’s highly anticipated tri-fold smartphone may have been indirectly unveiled through its One UI 8 beta software. This revelation stirred excitement, particularly given that Samsung did not mention this device during the recent Galaxy Unpacked event. Speculation has emerged that the tri-fold smartphone could be equipped with Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, enhancing its performance and functionality. Details surfaced from an internal breakdown of One UI 8, which revealed a specific line of code, “siop_q7mq_sm8750.” This suggests a connection to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, whose model number is prominently known.
The code hints at a greater likelihood that the device will indeed utilize this high-performance chip, possibly aligning with earlier reports that suggested its features. While details about the tri-fold smartphone remain scant, Samsung’s mobile chief, TM Roh, has confirmed ongoing development, with an optimistic target for a launch by the end of the year. Early rumors indicate that the device could share camera specifications with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, potentially featuring a 200MP primary camera, a 10MP telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. Competing with Huawei, which is rumored to debut its Mate XT sequel shortly, Samsung aims to make its mark in the increasingly crowded foldable market.
However, the projected price tag of around $3,000 and limited availability in specific markets like China and South Korea may hinder significant success. Despite its innovative features, the high cost and questionable utility of the tri-fold design may result in limited consumer adoption. Still, as the launch approaches, all eyes will be on Samsung to see if its ambitious venture pays off.
