iPad Enthusiasts Will Have Many Options to Choose From Next Year

Posted on 13 July 2025

The anticipation for new Apple products doesn’t end in 2025; early 2026 promises to be just as busy. Spring is expected to bring the next iPhone model, the iPhone 17e, alongside new iPads. A recent report suggests that entry-level iPads, designated J581 and J582, as well as new iPad Air models (J707, J708, J737, and J738) will be released just a year after their predecessors arrived in March 2025.

The current entry-level iPad, the 11th generation, priced at $349, is likely to be replaced around March or April 2026. The upcoming model, probably called the iPad 12th generation, will maintain a similar design but include a more powerful A17 chip, which is also utilized in the iPhone 15 series. This new entry-level iPad should continue to meet the needs of students, families, and casual users alike, offering a reliable option for everyday tasks without the need for excessive care.

Furthermore, the iPad Air models are set to upgrade from the M3 chip to the M4 chip, although they will largely retain their current design. These models are also anticipated to launch with the new entry-level iPads. On the higher end, the iPad Pro is rumored to upgrade to the M5 chip by October, while the M4 models remain a solid choice for those looking for high performance without the latest upgrade.

Aside from hardware improvements, the release of iPadOS 26, which includes the new Stage Manager 2 multitasking feature, could significantly enhance user experience. This update aims to improve window management, allowing users to resize and reposition windows, and save layout preferences. Utilizing these software advances alongside powerful new chips may shift the conversation around iPads, making them a more viable alternative to MacBooks for many users.
