Leak Reveals Exciting and Significant Camera Upgrades for Galaxy S26 Ultra

Posted on 13 July 2025

A recent leak suggests that Samsung’s upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, may feature a large 200MP camera sensor from Sony, which would represent a significant upgrade compared to the sensor on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The leak, shared by tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, indicates that this new sensor will be 1/1.1 inches, larger than the 1/1.3-inch sensor found in previous models. The potential improvements in image quality with this new sensor are notable. A larger sensor can increase light intake, enhancing photo quality, especially in low-light conditions.

If this rumor is accurate, we might expect the Galaxy S26 Ultra to deliver superior low-light performance and improved cropped zoom images. This advancement could lead to markedly better full-resolution photos compared to the existing capabilities of the S25 Ultra. Despite the excitement surrounding these leaks, it’s important to approach them with caution. Historically, Samsung has utilized in-house camera technology for its Ultra series.

This is significant because Sony has not previously supplied a 200MP sensor for smartphones. However, there are indications that Sony might be developing such a sensor, which could disrupt the market if Samsung decides to include it in the S26 Ultra. There’s also the possibility that Samsung has taken feedback into account, aiming to address the discontent from earlier releases with more substantial upgrades. While the Galaxy S26 Ultra has been linked to a 200MP camera in earlier rumors, none suggested a larger sensor or a partnership with Sony.

Therefore, while optimism is warranted, a measured outlook is advisable as we await the official announcement, expected early next year.
