Samsung’s $2,000 Galaxy Z Fold 7 Drops S Pen: What to Expect from the New Model

Posted on 10 July 2025

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Z Fold 7, revealing significant upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, one notable change in this iteration is the removal of support for the S Pen stylus, a feature that has been integral to Samsung’s foldable devices. Reports leading up to the launch indicated that the Z Fold 7 would no longer include S Pen compatibility, and this was confirmed during the announcement.

According to sources, Samsung may have dropped the digitizer layer to achieve a slimmer design but faced production challenges with the intended passive stylus. While users can expect a thinner profile, lighter body, larger screens, and upgraded camera specifications, the omission of the S Pen is disappointing for many fans. The Galaxy Z Fold 7’s price has also increased for the second consecutive year, starting at $2,000.

This price hike coupled with the lack of S Pen support amplifies the disappointment among consumers. Although Samsung maintains that the S Pen remains an essential part of the Galaxy lineup, skepticism grows considering the company’s recent decisions, including the removal of Bluetooth capabilities from other devices. This shift seems contradictory to Samsung’s trajectory from just two years ago, when a prototype featuring an S Pen slot was developed.

The current decision indicates a notable departure from those advancements, suggesting that Samsung believes foldable users no longer require the stylus. The announcement has stirred mixed emotions within the community, as fans weigh the benefits of the new features against the loss of an established functionality. Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 marks a significant evolution in design but leaves many questioning the direction of Samsung’s flagship foldable line.
