Recent reports suggest that we may have gotten our first look at Google’s upcoming affordable phone, the Pixel 10a. A back cover purportedly belonging to this model has recently appeared for sale online. Judging by the logo, this could very well be a prototype for the Pixel 10a. The design of the back cover seems to closely resemble that of the Pixel 9a, the current budget-friendly offering from Google.
Notably, the iconic camera bar has been eliminated, making way for a cutout in the top-left corner designated for the camera system. If the information is accurate, this phone may feature two cameras, similar to its predecessor, although the placement of the LED flash could be adjusted to the right. Additionally, the back cover appears to be flat, akin to the Pixel 9a, along with a flat frame—design choices that align with Google’s recent trends and leaks related to the Pixel 10 series. This alleged Pixel 10a back cover was discovered on a Chinese auction site called “Goofish,” where it was listed as an “engineering back cover.”
As of now, this listing is reportedly sold out. While we expect the Pixel 10a to make its debut in the spring of next year, the timing is still premature to confirm the authenticity of this leak. Currently, Google is gearing up to launch the Pixel 10 series in August, which is set to include four models. The Pixel 10a will compete for the title of the best mid-range smartphone, facing off against potential rivals like the rumored iPhone 17e and upcoming models from Samsung.
In my opinion, it’s too early to determine if this design will be the final version for the Pixel 10a. I personally miss the distinctive camera bar that characterized previous Pixel models, as it contributed to their unique charm. As a tech enthusiast, I look forward to more revelations about this upcoming device.
