Google surprised Pixel users by kicking off an unexpected Pixel Feature Drop this morning, unveiling a wealth of new capabilities. Among these enhancements is the much-anticipated integration of AI Mode with the Circle to Search feature. This upgrade allows users to dive deeper into the information displayed on their screens and ask follow-up questions effortlessly.
Another significant addition for Pixel 9 Pro owners is a complimentary one-year subscription to Google AI Pro, which provides access to the latest features available through the Gemini app. Notably, the app now includes Veo 3, a tool that transforms user concepts into high-quality videos complete with realistic sound. A recent demonstration showcased Veo 3’s capabilities, featuring a whimsical video with a dog riding a motorcycle and sea creatures playing musical instruments.
In a nod to the potential of Gemini on wearable technology, Google’s promotional video poses a captivating question: “What if the questions in your head could be answered on your wrist?” The video illustrates how a Pixel Watch user requests a tailored playlist for a specific running pace, showcasing Gemini’s ability to collaborate with YouTube Music. Additionally, it highlights how the app can assist users in recalling restaurants mentioned by friends via email.
Importantly, the Gemini feature is not exclusive to Pixel Watches. Starting today, it will also be available on Wear OS watches from brands like Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. The update will roll out over the next few weeks for devices running Wear OS 4 and above, broadening the reach of this new functionality.
Pixel Feature Drops are a quarterly event aimed at enhancing Pixel devices. While certain features are designated for newer models, they sometimes become accessible to older Pixel phones as well. The last feature drop occurred in June, with the next anticipated drop scheduled for September.
