Recently, we shared that Ultra Mobile, an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) under T-Mobile, has improved its prepaid service plans by offering customers more data without increasing the prices. This begs the question: will other MVNOs follow suit? For those unfamiliar, MVNOs are wireless service providers that do not own their network infrastructure.
Instead, they pay larger carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T, or Verizon to utilize their networks. This arrangement allows MVNOs to provide more affordable and flexible plans while granting users access to widespread coverage and speeds comparable to those offered by major carriers. Ultra Mobile’s new offerings are noteworthy.
The $15 plan now provides 500 MB, a significant increase from the previous 250 MB. The $19 plan rises from 3 GB to 4 GB, and even more substantial upgrades are seen in higher tiers, such as the $39 plan, which has increased from 15 GB to 24 GB. The $59 Ultra Unlimited+ plan continues to feature no data limits and now includes 25 GB of hotspot data along with enhanced international credit.
All plans retain unlimited calls and texts within the US and include perks like Wi-Fi calling, hotspot access, and international features. Customers will receive these updates automatically, minimizing the need for unnecessary paperwork. Additionally, Ultra Mobile is incentivizing customers to pay upfront with discounts of up to 30% for 12-month plans, potentially saving users as much as $216 annually.
This shift has led some to speculate that Mint Mobile may soon revise its data offerings as well, with predictions of increased GB for similar price points.
