Your phone won’t receive Android 16 if it belongs to one of these categories.

Posted on 1 July 2025

Android 16 is officially here, marking another iteration of Google’s widely used mobile operating system. This release was rolled out earlier than in previous years, with Pixel devices being the first to receive the update. While Android 16 is considered a significant update, users may perceive it as more of an incremental refinement than a revolutionary change.

It incorporates essential improvements such as new APIs, enhanced connectivity tools, and bolstered security. However, some of the more appealing features, like the Material 3 Expressive design and desktop-style multitasking, are still in the process of being implemented. During early testing, several users remarked that the appearance and functionality of Android 16 closely resemble that of Android 15.

Although the latest version lays important groundwork for future enhancements, many users won’t notice substantial differences at this stage. Nevertheless, Android 16 remains highly anticipated among non-iOS users. However, not all devices will have the chance to upgrade to Android 16.

For those who own popular Oppo smartphones, the news may be disappointing. Despite Oppo’s lack of an official announcement regarding which devices will receive Android 16 (or ColorOS 16, as it’s branded), industry trends suggest that many popular models will be left behind. Devices from the Oppo Find X5 series, Reno 10 series, and F21 Pro series are among those expected to miss out on the upgrade.

Users of the Oppo Find X5 Pro, a device well-regarded for its premium construction and advanced camera technology co-designed with Hasselblad, may feel particularly let down if it doesn’t receive Android 16. Similarly, the Reno 10 Pro+, valued for its sleek design and proficient telephoto capabilities, is likely to remain on its current version despite its popularity in the mid-range segment.
