Galaxy Z Fold 7 Features Lacks: Battery Under 4,400 mAh and Disappointing IP Rating

Posted on 1 July 2025

According to a new report from a reliable source, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 may not live up to expectations in two significant areas: battery performance and IP rating. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 was marketed with a 4,400 mAh battery, but the actual capacity came in at around 4,273 mAh.

The Fold 7 appears to continue this trend, featuring a battery capacity of just 4,272 mAh. Additionally, the anticipated 25W wired charging is also considered underwhelming by many.

A recent poll indicates that a substantial portion of users see these battery specifications as a dealbreaker, with 51.63% answering “Yes,” while only 32.12% responded “No,” and 16.25% were unsure. On the IP rating front, the Fold 7 retains the IP48 rating from its predecessor.

This means it can fend off larger dust particles, while smaller ones may still enter the device. In contrast, the more common IP68 rating provides full dust resistance and superior water protection.

Despite these drawbacks, the Fold 7 still shows promise as an impressive foldable smartphone. It has garnered interest, even surpassing the allure of a foldable iPhone for some.

However, Samsung is lagging behind competitors in key areas. For instance, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold boasts a larger 4,650 mAh battery and an IPX8 rating for better water resistance.

Other models from Chinese manufacturers, like the Oppo Find N5 and Honor Magic V5, also outperform the Fold 7 significantly in battery capacity and protection. The advancements in battery technology may soon elevate the Fold series, especially if the Fold 8 addresses these current shortcomings and rises to compete more effectively in the foldable market.
