Samsung Analyzes Past Innovations to Explore Future Features for the Galaxy Z Flip

Posted on 27 June 2025

Samsung is exploring innovative designs for future iterations of the Galaxy Z Flip by filing a patent for a curved display interface. This application was submitted to the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and was highlighted by tech enthusiasts at 91mobiles.

The proposed design includes a “battery level graphical user interface” specifically for a foldable clamshell phone. The concept design features a subtle curve along the top frame, drawing inspiration from Samsung’s previous curved display phones, such as the Galaxy Note Edge released in 2014.

The patent illustrates a user-friendly indicator that visually displays the remaining battery life. A colored line runs up the curved display, representing the battery percentage, while a numerical value at the bottom provides the exact figure.

In the illustration, a battery life of 90% is depicted with a blue line occupying 90% of the curved display, while the remaining 10% is shown in black to signify used battery power. This color scheme continues with a gold line indicating 50% battery life and a red line for just 10% remaining, acting as a visual alert for users.

Additionally, the patent outlines features like a USB-C charging port, dual speaker grilles, and an edge-to-edge cover display, along with dual cameras. This design bears a striking resemblance to existing Galaxy Z Flip models.

However, it’s essential to note that filing such a patent does not guarantee that Samsung will implement this feature in upcoming devices. If they do decide to pursue the curved display with the battery interface, it may not appear until at least 2026.
