The ongoing rivalry between T-Mobile and Verizon over which company provides the best service may have reached a conclusion, according to Opensignal’s latest report. T-Mobile has consistently touted its mobile network performance, asserting that recent tests showed it as the leading provider in the United States. This assertion culminated in claims during tests conducted between the fourth quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025. Verizon responded firmly, maintaining its position as the fastest and most reliable network based on data from RootMetrics, which it considers a more accurate measure.
However, despite the back-and-forth, customer preference often hinges less on which network is statistically superior and more on reliable service in their specific areas. Nevertheless, Opensignal’s analysis may suggest a slight edge for T-Mobile. According to Opensignal’s study, conducted from February 1 to May 1, T-Mobile excelled across several key performance metrics. Specifically, it dominated in categories such as Reliability Experience, Consistent Quality, and Download Speed Experience, achieving download speeds of 177.5 Mbps and 252.4 Mbps for 5G.
In total, T-Mobile led in nine categories, while Verizon topped five, including 5G Video Experience and Coverage Experience. Interestingly, AT&T also featured in the rankings, leading in the Availability category, indicating that its users experienced more consistent data connectivity throughout the day compared to both T-Mobile and Verizon. Despite T-Mobile’s impressive performance, the competitive landscape reveals only minor differences among the scores of the three major providers, particularly in terms of download and upload speeds. Hence, while T-Mobile may now claim the title of industry leader, its position is not overwhelmingly dominant, suggesting it might want to temper its public statements regarding network superiority.
