The iPhone 17 lineup could feature groundbreaking next-gen chips, contrary to popular belief.

Posted on 16 July 2025

Forget everything you’ve heard! The upcoming iPhone 17 lineup appears set to be powered by next-generation chips, which might surprise many enthusiasts. Apple is gearing up for a launch event this September, and with that comes a surge of leaks and rumors. A new report suggests that the standard iPhone 17 may deliver a more significant performance boost than previously anticipated.

Contrary to earlier expectations, the base iPhone 17 will not utilize the A18 chip from the iPhone 16. Instead, it is reportedly going to feature the cutting-edge A19 chipset, aligning it with the iPhone 17 Air. For the Pro models, Apple will likely up the ante with the more robust A19 Pro chip. While this represents a promising upgrade, the base model is expected to retain 8 GB of RAM, whereas the Air and Pro variants could be equipped with 12 GB for enhanced multitasking and AI capabilities.

Historically, Apple has occasionally reused chips across different models, leading to inconsistency in naming conventions. For instance, the iPhone 14 used the A15 chip from the previous generation. However, adopting the latest chip for the entire iPhone 17 series feels more aligned with Apple’s forward-thinking approach. In addition to the A-series enhancements, Apple is reportedly working on custom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips to support Wi-Fi 7.

These advancements promise better performance and energy efficiency, further solidifying Apple’s ecosystem. Moreover, there are indications that the base iPhone 17 may incorporate Apple’s proprietary C1 modem for cellular connectivity. Interestingly, while many sources forecast the iPhone 17 Air to receive the A19 chip, there are rumors suggesting it could be equipped with the A19 Pro instead. This upgrade would mean superior graphics performance, making the Pro version more adept for intensive tasks like gaming and AR applications, emphasizing Apple’s focus on powerful features in its high-end models.
