Struggling to Open My Galaxy Fold 7: A Love-Hate Relationship with My Device

Posted on 17 July 2025

This article expresses the author’s personal views and opinions on the current state of smartphones, particularly in relation to Samsung’s recent release. In the competition to create the slimmest and lightest foldable phone, it seemed that Samsung had fallen behind, especially after the introduction of the Honor Magic V5, which claimed to be the world’s thinnest folding phone. However, a closer examination revealed that Honor may have manipulated its measurements by excluding pre-applied screen protectors.

Since removing the inside screen protector isn’t recommended, this could be considered misleading. Ultimately, when measured accurately, the Galaxy Fold 7 emerges as the true winner, now recognized as the world’s thinnest foldable phone. Congratulations to Samsung on this achievement!

While the Galaxy Fold 7’s slim design is impressive, upon further inspection, I noticed a significant drawback: opening the device is challenging. The sleek form factor and flat edges make it difficult for users like me, who have slender fingers, to pry it open. Despite my confidence in handling phones without dropping them, the Fold 7 often felt precarious, especially given its substantial price tag of $2,000.

A potential solution to this problem could be adopting angled sides, similar to what Vivo has implemented with the X Fold 3 Pro. This design adjustment enhances usability and reduces the anxiety associated with opening the device. Unfortunately, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 set for release soon, it seems unlikely that Samsung will make such changes before then.

Thus, I recommend potential buyers test the Fold 7 in store, ensuring they feel comfortable with the design, as usability is paramount in any device.
