Smartphone Batteries: Finally Receiving the Upgrades We’ve Always Wanted

Posted on 13 July 2025

Battery life continues to be a significant concern for heavy smartphone users, despite the introduction of newer models equipped with higher-capacity batteries. Fortunately, advancements are on the horizon, as reports suggest that smartphone batteries are about to undergo the enhancements they truly need.

Recent supply chain insights indicate that the current limitations of dense silicon batteries are not final. By the end of this year, batteries with a capacity of 7,000 mAh are expected to become increasingly prevalent, with prospects of even larger batteries on the rise starting next year.

This development has many users excited about the potential for improved battery life. As companies innovate, it appears that teams are now experimenting with alternative materials and designs.

This exploration may enable standard phones to feature batteries exceeding 8,000 mAh. Utilizing new shapes and steel shells for added structural support, we are closer than ever to seeing consumer smartphones with 10,000 mAh batteries.

Models like the Honor Power already boast an 8,000 mAh capacity, and the upcoming Honor X70 is set to include an 8,300 mAh battery while still maintaining a slim profile. Meanwhile, established brands like Samsung and Apple are reportedly researching these new battery technologies, despite facing certain regulatory challenges that hinder their ability to match the advancements made by their Chinese competitors.

The recent Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, while impressive, still relies on the same 4,400 mAh battery as its predecessor, highlighting the need for larger capacities in future models. As research continues, we can hope for silicon batteries that deliver higher capacities without compromising durability.

This could pave the way for a new era of smartphones with greatly enhanced battery life, benefiting consumers everywhere.
