Shoppers Spot Issues with Galaxy Z Fold 7 While Checking It Out in Stores

Posted on 17 July 2025

Potential customers looking at the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in stores have encountered a concerning issue: the device does not open completely flat. As the Fold 7 is set to begin shipping on July 25, early observations indicate that the phone, although touted as the thinnest and lightest foldable device, might have some design flaws related to its hinge. Reports from retailers suggest that some demo models are not unfolding entirely, leading to questions about the new design’s reliability. Customers have commented on Reddit about the noticeable arch when the device is fully opened, raising concerns about whether this is a flaw in the manufacturing process.

It’s worth noting that many of these demo units have been handled extensively by potential buyers, which could be a factor in their performance. Samsung’s previous model, the Fold 6, is rated for 200,000 folding and unfolding cycles, and the expectation is that the Fold 7 should be similar or even better. If a unit is under constant use, the hinge may become compromised over time. Some suggest that the new hinge design may require more pressure to achieve a full opening, while others find that the slimmer profile of the device makes it harder to grip securely.

Additional observations have surfaced regarding cosmetic alignment issues when the device is closed, which could further signify a potential quality concern. Currently, it is still early to determine if these issues are widespread or merely isolated incidents related to handling by customers. With the Galaxy Z Fold 7 carrying a price tag of around $2,000, any significant manufacturing flaw could deter buyers from making a purchase.
