Samsung is anticipated to unveil a significant camera upgrade for at least one model in the Galaxy S26 lineup, particularly for the Galaxy S26 Edge. This model is expected to replace both the Galaxy S25 Edge and S25 Plus, with a notable leap from a 12MP to a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera. With recent launches of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, attention is now shifting to the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, which is gaining momentum as a presumed January 2026 announcement approaches.
The internal codename for the Galaxy S26 series is reportedly “NPA,” short for “Next Paradigm.” This naming convention links to the “Paradigm” codename used for the Galaxy S25 series, suggesting resemblance in design and features. Despite some fans hoping for a radical redesign, the early indications imply that major changes may not be on the horizon.
Samsung is rumored to focus on just three models in the Galaxy S26 lineup, potentially retiring the Plus variant in favor of the upgraded Edge model. This new Edge variant could serve as a flagship with a high-end camera system, while the base S26 and S26 Ultra would also join the market. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature a 200MP primary rear camera and a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom capabilities.
However, details about the overall camera setup for the S26 and the S26 Ultra remain largely undisclosed. Nonetheless, there are hints at exciting upgrades for the compact S26 model as well. While the Galaxy S26 series may not entirely redefine the smartphone landscape, several enhancements in photography, power efficiency, and battery life are still anticipated, making it a much-anticipated release for tech enthusiasts.
