Samsung, Keep the Faith: The Tri-Fold Mobile Future Deserves Another Chance!

Posted on 13 July 2025

Come on, Samsung! Don’t give up on the tri-fold just yet. Samsung has recently expressed uncertainty regarding its tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy G Fold, missing from recent announcements alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Initially, I believed this omission was simply a sign of the device not being ready for reveal. However, it appears that there are deeper concerns within the company itself. In a recent interview, Samsung indicated that it is hesitant about the demand for a tri-fold device.

There are reports suggesting that its launch would be limited to select markets, casting doubt on whether the device will see a broader release. While it’s understandable that such a unique device might not have mass appeal, the most significant barrier to successful sales will likely be its price, which is expected to be high, similar to the Huawei Mate XT. Despite these challenges, I believe there is still a compelling case for the Galaxy G Fold.

My perspective on foldable devices has changed dramatically, especially with the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has evolved beyond early iterations and now offers a remarkably slim and powerful design with a nearly imperceptible crease. If Samsung has redefined the foldable experience, there is no reason the Galaxy G Fold cannot find a market. With Apple’s increasing activity in the smartphone market, particularly regarding new foldable models, Samsung has a considerable opportunity to stand out with the G Fold.

While currently, the Galaxy S25 Edge may be underperforming, Samsung should still invest in the G Fold. By committing to its development and subsequent models, Samsung could seize a unique niche in the evolving smartphone landscape.
