Recalled Anker Power Banks: Stop Using Them Immediately After Recent Expansion Announcement

Posted on 1 July 2025

Anker has announced an expanded recall of its PowerCore power banks due to ongoing fire risks. If you own one of these devices, it is crucial to check immediately, as the recall was initiated after reports of 19 instances where the chargers caught fire or exploded. This latest recall builds upon previous recalls for specific models, including the A1263 and A1642, and now includes several other PowerCore models. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has indicated that over 1.1 million units sold in the U.S. are affected.

Anker intends to replace these devices or provide customers with a $30 gift card for their online store. To benefit from this offer, customers must provide photo evidence of ownership and demonstrate that they have disposed of the PowerCore devices safely. The products involved in this recall were sold between June 1, 2016, and December 31, 2022. When verifying your device’s serial number, pay special attention to the characters, particularly ‘1’, ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘2’, and ‘Z’.

Importantly, the letter ‘O’ (as in “Oscar”) and ‘I’ (as in “India”) are not used in the serial numbers of the models being recalled. If your power bank is one of the affected models, cease using it immediately. You can verify your device and request a replacement or gift card on Anker’s recall webpage. Anker advises against disposing of the device in regular trash or recycling services; instead, contact a local hazardous waste center.
