Google’s Pixel Watch series has garnered attention for its aesthetics, but practicality has been a recurring issue. However, with the anticipated release of the Pixel Watch 4, Google is making significant improvements, particularly in repairability. Unlike its predecessors, the Pixel Watch 4 can be opened and serviced, addressing long-standing user concerns. The previous 4/10 repair score from iFixit for the Pixel Watch 3 highlights the importance of this change, and expectations are high for a better rating for the upcoming model.
The Pixel Watch 4 is also set to be smarter and more efficient, thanks to an upgrade in its co-processor. The new Cortex-M55 will replace the old M33, while the main Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip remains. This upgrade will enhance on-device AI capabilities, leading to better health tracking and more responsive smart notifications, all while conserving battery life. Speaking of battery, the 45mm version is expected to last up to 40 hours with the always-on display enabled and an impressive 72 hours in Battery Saver mode.
Visually, the Pixel Watch 4 retains its sleek design but features notable improvements, including 16% smaller bezels and a brighter 3,000-nit display—an upgrade from the previous model’s 2,000 nits. This enhancement aligns the watch with competitors like the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 8. With 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, the Watch 4 is poised to deliver solid performance, likely running Wear OS 5 with better Google AI integration. Set to launch on August 20 alongside the Pixel 10 series at Google’s Made by Google event, the Pixel Watch 4 promises to be a valuable upgrade for users, especially those who have experienced issues with previous models.
