Netflix Introduces AI-Generated Scenes in Existing and Upcoming Shows

Posted on 22 July 2025

AI-generated content, including images, videos, and music, has sparked intense debates online, but Netflix is undeterred in its pursuit of this technology. The streaming giant has already utilized AI in its production of the show “The Eternaut,” which portrays a global disaster that initially presents itself in a misleading way. Although I found the show engaging, those who prefer faster-paced narratives might find it somewhat sluggish. Netflix confirmed that it employed generative AI to expedite the production of a specific scene in “The Eternaut.”

This decision, however, has provoked criticism from various circles, accusing the company of cutting costs at the expense of creative artists. Critics argue that the only thing expedited by AI is management interference, as it remains challenging to fine-tune an AI model’s output to meet personal preferences. Despite the backlash, Netflix plans to continue its use of AI in production efforts. Competition in the industry is also heating up, with Disney reportedly considering collaboration with Runway AI, although they have no immediate plans to use AI in their own products.

Netflix’s current approach echoes its history of making controversial decisions, including canceling beloved shows and implementing price hikes with ads even for paid subscriptions. As AI technology evolves rapidly, its impact on various aspects of society is inevitable. The latest developments in AI could threaten job security in many fields. Much like previous technological advancements such as cameras and automobiles, AI will face scrutiny, but its integration is set to become commonplace.

Netflix is merely one of the early adopters of this inevitable trend. The discussion surrounding AI in content creation raises complex questions about the future of creativity and the role of technology. Views are diverse, but what is clear is that this topic remains pivotal as we navigate the digital landscape.
