Motorola may be making a surprising comeback with the Moto 360 smartwatch, set to relaunch in 2025. This new iteration retains the distinctive round display that fans of smartwatches recognize, but it introduces an updated design. The refined frame features a rotating crown at the 2 o’clock position and a secondary button at 4 o’clock, evoking a resemblance to the OnePlus Watch 3.
This upcoming Moto 360 also promises to offer five different color variants and a brushed metal finish. Notably, the lugs are flatter compared to those in the previous eBuyNow version. However, there remain many unanswered questions, particularly regarding the operating system that will power the device.
There are indications that Motorola may not utilize Google’s Wear OS, as it did in the past. Instead, the company could opt for its in-house Moto Watch OS, a real-time operating system designed for improved performance and battery longevity. This approach isn’t entirely new for Motorola; they might even consider a dual-OS strategy, combining their Moto Watch OS with a lighter version of Wear OS for select features.
Interestingly, the leaked images of the device suggest a user interface that closely resembles Wear OS, which raises speculation about some level of compatibility with Google’s ecosystem. While an official launch date hasn’t been confirmed, the implication is that the Moto 360 could be released later this year. If Motorola successfully revives the Moto 360 with meaningful enhancements and integrated software features, it could attract users who have a fondness for traditional smartwatch aesthetics.
As we await further developments, it’s clear that there is substantial interest in classic-style watches, making this a potentially timely move for Motorola in the competitive smartwatch market.
