Apple’s upcoming iOS 26 introduces a new feature designed to filter out spam texts and messages from unknown senders, aiming to enhance user experience and security. Many users are familiar with the frustration of unsolicited texts, such as those claiming to be from the U.S. Postal Service or even one’s bank, prompting emotional responses that can lead to misinformation and potential scams.
The Messages app will now allow users to take control over unwanted communications. To enable this feature, users can simply tap the blue button in the upper right corner of the Messages app and select ‘Manage Filtering.’ There are two key options available: “Screen Unknown Senders” and “Filter Spam.”
Once activated, “Screen Unknown Senders” will divert texts from unidentified contacts into a dedicated Unknown Senders list, while “Filter Spam” will do the same for messages classified as spam. Although users won’t receive notifications for these off-screen texts, they remain accessible in the app under specific categories. To check them, users can open the Messages app and tap the blue button again to reveal the menu.
Within this menu, users can view messages categorized under “Unknown Senders” and “Spam,” allowing for quick access to texts that were automatically hidden. In addition to these lists, users will also have access to other options, including recently deleted messages. This comprehensive approach aims to significantly reduce spam while maintaining easy access when needed.
The new features will be rolled out to all users upon the official release of iOS 26 in September, although those participating in the Developer Beta can already take advantage of them.
