Version 2.2025.26200 of Google Keep has officially dropped support for the Apple Watch, marking the end of its presence on the device since 2019. Despite lacking significant updates in recent years—such as a new app icon or enhanced compatibility with watchOS features—many users depended on Google Keep for easy access to their shopping lists and notes while on the move.
The removal of this app may disrupt the routines of those who relied on it, especially as watchOS 26 prepares to introduce a native Notes app. Until now, Google Keep offered a lightweight solution for quick note retrieval right from the wrist, reducing the need to pull out a phone.
User reactions to this change are mixed. Some express disappointment, emphasizing their regular use of the app, while others note that, though they didn’t use it frequently, its absence is still felt.
A small portion of users remain indifferent, primarily relying on Apple’s built-in Notes app and admitting they were unaware that Google Keep was available on the Apple Watch. While Keep is no longer available to Apple Watch users, it continues to operate on Wear OS, indicating Google’s ongoing, albeit inconsistent, support for its own wearable platform.
Additionally, a new Google Calendar app has been introduced on watchOS, which, like Keep, offers limited functionality. The app provides a week’s worth of events in a simplified read-only format but integrates better with watchOS through complications and Smart Stack support.
With the removal of Keep, Google’s watchOS app portfolio is reduced to Maps, YouTube Music, and Calendar. Unfortunately, these apps, too, show signs of neglect, with no significant updates for years.
This situation raises questions about Google’s strategy on the Apple Watch, as it appears the company is not fully committed to enhancing its presence on the platform. The future of Google’s smartwatch investment remains uncertain, leaving Apple Watch users with a diminished experience and one less app to manage their notes.
