Google Keep App Unveils Enhanced Material Design 3 Features for a More Expressive User Experience

Posted on 25 July 2025

Google’s Keep app for Android has recently introduced more enhancements aligned with Material Design 3 Expressive principles. While many users were hoping for the addition of password protection, the changes primarily focus on the app’s visual redesign. The updates began with version 5.25.252.00.90 and continued with the latest version, 5.25.282.00.90.

Feedback from users indicates that the new aesthetic has yet to be universally adopted, as demonstrated by the experience of some users running Android QPR1 Beta 3 on devices like the Pixel 6 Pro. This suggests that the rollout may still be dependent on server-side updates from Google, affecting its availability on various devices. The redesigned interface features a more prominent search bar, complete with a hamburger icon on the left and a dynamic label that changes from “Google Keep” to “Search Keep.”

The layout also introduces a column-switching icon and reorganizes the Notes section, with buttons well contained within surfaces for easier access. Specifically, the pin, reminder, and archive buttons are now housed within squircles at the top right. Aside from its visual improvements, Google Keep remains a versatile tool for note-taking, list-making, and organization.

Users can record meetings, create written notes, and capture images directly from their camera or Google Photos. The app also accommodates creative endeavors, allowing users to jot down musical ideas, lyrics, or sketches. In essence, Google Keep serves as a comprehensive solution for both casual users and professionals looking to organize thoughts, make shopping lists, or brainstorm new concepts.

The app is readily available for installation on both Android and iOS devices.
