Gemini’s Sparkle Icon Transformed with a Vibrant Twist to Align with Google’s Updated Aesthetic

Posted on 1 July 2025

Gemini is undergoing a visual transformation to better align with Google’s branding. A recent finding in the beta version of the Google app indicates that Gemini’s sparkle icon is being updated with Google’s signature four-color palette. Previously, the icon featured a blue-purple gradient, distinguishing it from other AI tools.

The original design, which included a four-pointed sparkle, became a recognizable symbol in the AI space. However, with various platforms adopting similar designs, Google aims to refine Gemini’s identity. The updated Gemini icon retains the sparkle shape, but introduces a lively color scheme with blue, red, yellow, and green hues at each point.

The right side is primarily blue, while the left showcases a gentle gradient for added depth. This new design closely mirrors the recently refreshed ‘G’ logo rolled out by Google, indicating a cohesive visual identity across the company’s platforms. This updated icon was first seen in beta version 16.25 of the Google app on Android, specifically during the generation of Audio Overviews.

As of now, it has only appeared in this one context and has not yet been widely deployed across the Gemini app on Android, iOS, or desktop. However, its appearance may hint at forthcoming broader rollouts. Google has previously made subtle adjustments to the Gemini branding.

In April, the colors were tweaked for better visibility on home screens, and in May, the “AI Premium” rebranding saw the red version of the logo quietly phased out. This shift to a multi-colored icon is more than a minor update; it signifies a strategic branding decision. With AI services expanding across Google’s platforms, a distinct and consistent design will help users differentiate products.

The revamped Gemini icon not only emphasizes its affiliation with Google but also allows it to stand out in a crowded market of similar designs. As we await a more extensive rollout, it seems this change is a deliberate step toward integrating Gemini into Google’s broader AI vision.
