Google has recently enhanced the search experience by introducing an AI Overview feature that allows users to delve deeper into their queries. Whether you’re using Android or iOS, the AI Overview provides an initial response to your question, and there’s more to explore beyond that first answer. When you submit a query, certain parts of the AI Overview response are highlighted in blue. By tapping on these highlighted sections, users can access three additional buttons at the bottom of the screen, enabling a more detailed exploration of the topic at hand.
The three new buttons are designed to enhance user engagement with the content. The first button, “Explain this,” generates a detailed AI-driven explanation relevant to the highlighted blue text. For instance, if you search “What is Android?” and the AI Overview states, “Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google primarily for mobile devices,” pressing the Explain button will provide a more comprehensive response.
The second button, “Related images,” presents images that correspond to the highlighted snippet, enriching the visual context. Lastly, the “Copy text” button enables users to copy the highlighted information to their clipboard for easy reference. In addition to the AI Overview features, Google is also testing AI-generated summaries in the Discover feed. This innovation allows users to quickly preview articles sourced from various publishers, which are represented by overlapping icons rather than a single logo.
By tapping these icons, users can view a list of all the articles that contributed to the summary. This functionality aims to save time and streamline the information-gathering process, empowering users to make informed decisions about which stories to read in full. Overall, Google’s integration of AI into search aims to provide quicker and more relevant information to users.
