AT&T has emerged as a notable leader in the connectivity landscape, as recent reports indicate that it surpassed performance metrics compared to its rivals, T-Mobile and Verizon, in the first half of 2025. While both T-Mobile and Verizon engaged in a public debate over who reigns supreme in mobile service, AT&T strategically chose to remain aloof.
According to a report from RootMetrics, a mobile analytics company, AT&T topped most performance categories in the first half of 2025. Despite Verizon’s assertions of having the most reliable 5G network, the latest data showed neither it nor T-Mobile could claim the top spot overall.
The RootScore report, based on over three million real-world tests, highlighted AT&T’s network as the most reliable, earning a score of 97.7 out of 100. Verizon followed closely with 97.5, while T-Mobile lagged behind at 95.9.
AT&T’s high ratings reflect not only its overall performance but also its strength in call performance and speed. The company tied with Verizon for excellence in data and text performance, while Verizon was noted for its responsive network and exceptional video service.
On the 5G front, Verizon led in the categories of best, fastest, and most reliable 5G service. Notably, while T-Mobile didn’t clinch the top position in any specific category, it maintained a competitive edge with the highest 5G availability and the fastest speeds in major cities.
The ongoing competition among these carriers indicates that all are investing heavily to enhance their services. For consumers, choosing a network based on local coverage and performance may be more beneficial than relying solely on general reports, which can vary in their findings.
Ultimately, while AT&T may currently be in the spotlight, solid performance from all three carriers ensures that the debate over the best network is far from settled.
