Recent reports indicate that Apple has started importing components for the iPhone 17 into India, signaling the commencement of early testing in preparation for the anticipated launch. Foxconn India, one of Apple’s primary manufacturing partners, has begun receiving these components, which include critical parts like the display assembly and rear camera modules.
This early production phase is likely to kick off mass production in August, with the official unveiling of the iPhone 17 expected in September, potentially around the week of September 8. It’s noteworthy that the batch of components designated for the iPhone 17 constitutes about 10% of Foxconn’s total orders from China in June.
The remaining 90% is reportedly allocated for the production of existing models, such as the iPhone 14 and iPhone 16, which are already scheduled for higher sales due to the festive season in India next month. The limited number of iPhone 17 components suggests that this phase is primarily for testing purposes.
In addition to the trial production progress, Foxconn is reportedly planning to establish a factory in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, dedicated to manufacturing iPhone enclosures and chassis. Furthermore, a significant $2.6 billion plant in Bengaluru is set to focus on the production of current models, including the iPhone 16.
This move illustrates Apple’s commitment to enhancing its manufacturing footprint in India, aiming for a seamless transition into local production with the launch of the iPhone 17. If everything proceeds as planned, Indian production lines may soon be gearing up to deliver the new model shortly after its official announcement, which bodes well for both Apple’s growth and the expansion of India’s technology sector.
