Samsung is set to unveil its new range of smartwatches, featuring a design transformation that could unify the Galaxy Watch lineup. Recent reports and leaks indicate that the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 will all adopt a “squircle” shape, a design first introduced with last year’s Ultra model.
This represents a strategic shift in Samsung’s design philosophy, as for the first time, all models will share the same form factor. While some users welcome this cohesiveness as a means of enhancing brand recognition, others feel that the squircle design should remain exclusive to the Ultra model to maintain its unique identity.
The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will retain the beloved rotating bezel, which has been a fan favorite for some time. Leaked images suggest that this model will also include a Quick button, akin to the Ultra.
Visually, it sits between the base Watch 8 and the Ultra, with a slightly thicker bezel and notches to support rotation. This indicates that Samsung aims to provide variety in features while standardizing the overall design.
The standard Galaxy Watch 8 will also embrace the squircle shape, although its implementation is expected to be more subtle. Like its predecessor, this model will likely be offered in two sizes: 40mm and 44mm.
This design direction may seem out of character for a non-rugged watch, but it reflects Samsung’s ambition to create a cohesive visual identity across its product range. As for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025, design alterations are minimal; the most significant change is the introduction of a new blue color variant paired with a blue Marine strap.
Samsung appears to be incorporating blue as a key color across its devices this year. The official reveal of all three watches is anticipated during the upcoming Unpacked event, presumably in early July.
While some may lament the loss of distinct model differentiation, others might appreciate the unified aesthetic. The impact of this design overhaul on user experience will likely depend on how well Samsung communicates the unique features of each model moving forward.
