Uncertainty Surrounds Launch of Apple’s Competing Headphones to AirPods Max, Reports Reuters AP Newsletters

Posted on 6 June 2025

Nothing has officially announced the launch date for its new over-ear headphones, named headphone (1), set to debut on July 1st. This release coincides with the launch of the Nothing Phone (3) and aims to target high-end audio enthusiasts. The announcement was made via the company’s social media and a post from CEO Carl Pei.

Last month, Nothing teased the headphone (1) with a video designed to position it as a competitor to Apple’s premium AirPods Max. The teaser confirmed a summer launch, and the official announcement has now validated this timeline. The headphone (1) is expected to embody the minimalist design philosophy that Nothing is known for, and will likely be offered in black and white, consistent with the color options of the Phone (3).

While specific specifications are yet to be detailed, the headphones are anticipated to include essential features such as active noise cancellation and Bluetooth support, which are becoming standard in this competitive price bracket. The expected retail price is around €300 or $320, aiming to rival premium models like the Sony WH-1000XM5, Bose QuietComfort Ultra, and Apple AirPods Max. In a strategic move, Nothing is reportedly partnering with British audio company KEF, recognized for its high-quality audio experience, to develop the headphone (1).

This collaboration might enhance the performance of the new headphones and help establish Nothing’s presence in the over-ear headphone market. As the launch date approaches, more details about the headphones’ specifications and features are anticipated, reflecting Nothing’s commitment to building a cohesive ecosystem across its products.
