The Trump Mobile website has recently removed a significant feature related to the T1 Phone—its claim that the device is “Made in America.” Initially announced by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the T1 was intended to embody the spirit of American manufacturing, aligning with President Trump’s push for domestic production.
However, many analysts expressed skepticism regarding the feasibility of producing the phone in the U.S. at the established price of $499, as the only known fully American-made smartphone, the Purism Liberty Phone, retails for $2,000. Despite the optimistic original messaging, the Trump Mobile website now presents a more nuanced statement about the T1.
While it used to emphasize that the phone was made in America, it has shifted to phrases such as “brought to life right here in the USA,” suggesting a deviation from the original claim. This change indicates a recognition from the Trump Mobile team that the dream of domestic production may take longer than anticipated, reminiscent of the six-year development period for the Liberty Phone.
Nonetheless, a spokesperson for Trump Mobile, Chris Walker, asserted that “T1 phones are proudly being made in America,” dismissing speculation to the contrary as inaccurate. When the phone was first introduced, it was described as a “sleek, gold smartphone engineered for performance and proudly designed and built in the United States.”
The Trump T1 boasts a range of impressive features, including a 6.25-inch AMOLED display, a 50MP rear camera, 12GB of RAM, and a 5000 mAh battery. Potential buyers can pre-order the device through the Trump Mobile site by paying $100 upfront.
Whether or not the phone is truly manufactured in America, the excitement from Trump’s supporters seems poised to drive demand significantly.
