Motorola Phones That Need an Update to Android 16

Posted on 13 June 2025

Motorola has made significant strides in updating its smartphones, despite not being the fastest manufacturer in the U.S. The company has recently shared expectations regarding which devices will receive the Android 16 update. Budget devices, like those in the Moto G series, typically receive one or two major updates along with two to three years of security patches. Mid-range options, such as the Moto Edge, usually get two to three years of major updates and three to four years of security updates.

Flagship models, including the Edge+ series and Razr foldables, often receive three major updates and four years of security support, with some like the Moto Edge 50 Neo promising up to five years of updates. Historically, Motorola has been influential in the smartphone market, notably with the launch of the DROID, which was one of the first true contenders to the iPhone in 2009. It introduced unique features like free, turn-by-turn directions through Google Maps. However, over the years, the company struggled against competitors like Samsung and HTC but has recently returned its focus to higher-end models, including the innovative Motorola Razr Ultra (2025).

For those eager to find out whether their Motorola smartphones will receive the Android 16 update, here is a breakdown of eligible models. The list includes various phones from the Motorola Edge series, such as the Motorola Edge 2025 and its Pro, Fusion, and Stylus versions. The Razr lineup also features numerous models, including the Razr+ 2024 and Razr 2025. Additionally, specific Moto G series phones and the ThinkPhone 25 by Motorola are expected to be updated.

While some unlisted models, like the Razr 2024, Moto G35, and Moto G15, may also receive the update, the timeline for these updates remains uncertain. As newer models are usually prioritized, early updates for the Moto Edge 60 lineup can be anticipated before others, including the Edge 40 Pro.
